Champion Macau Auction Features Rare Chinese Stamps Graded by ASG

One of the most prestigious lots in the sale is a group of three Specimen stamps commemorating the founding of the Chinese Empire.

Dozens of rare Chinese stamps certified by Authenticated Stamp Guaranty® (ASG®) and pedigreed to the H.F. Bowker Collection are available in the 2022 Champion Macau Autumn Auction. Online bidding is already underway for the sale, which will be held in Macau, China on November 27, 2022.

One of the most prestigious lots is a group of three undated China Specimen stamps commemorating the founding of the Chinese Empire, for use in Xinjiang: a 5 Cents graded ASG VF 80 Mint POG; a 10 Cents graded ASG VF 80 Mint POG; and a 50 Cents graded ASG F/VF 75 Mint POG, all pedigreed to the H.F. Bowker Collection (lot 26). These never-issued stamps date to 1916, just a few years after China’s Imperial Era ended, when President Yuan Shikai unsuccessfully tried to establish himself as a new emperor. This lot has an estimate of $2,000 to $4,000.

Another highlight in the auction is a Block of Four China (1885-1888) Qing Dynasty - Small Dragon 1 Candareens graded ASG VF/XF 85 Mint OG, also pedigreed to the H.F. Bowker Collection (lot 5). This stunning piece of early Chinese postage history has an estimate of $1,000 to $2,000.

Other ASG-certified highlights from the H.F. Bowker Collection in this auction include:

  • a group of eight China Qing Dynasty Specimens, including a ½ Cent, 1 Cent, 2 Cents, 4 Cents, 5 Cents, 10 Cents, 20 Cents and 30 Cents, each graded ASG VF 80 Mint OP (lot 27), with an estimate of $2,000 to $4,000
  • a group of three China undated Second Beijing Print Memorial Archway for Use in Xinjiang Specimens, including a $5, $10 and $20, each graded ASG VF 80 Mint POG or ASG VF/XF 85 Mint POG (lot 30), with an estimate of $600 to $1,200.
  • a group of 11 China Undated First Beijing Print Junk for Use in Xinjiang Specimens, including a 1/2 Cent, 1 Cent, 1.5 Cents, 2 Cents, 3 Cents, 4 Cents, 5 Cents, 6 Cents, 7 Cents, 8 Cents and 10 Cents, each graded ASG F/VF 75 Mint POG to ASG VF/XF 85 Mint POG (lot 28), with an estimate of $600 to $1,200
  • a group of four China 1921 Chinese Postal Service 25th Anniversary Specimens, including a 1 Cent, 3 Cent, 6 Cent and 10 Cent, each graded ASG VF 80 Mint POG or ASG VF/XF 85 Mint POG (lot 29), with an estimate of $300 to $600
  • a Block of Four China 1904 Qing Dynasty - Coil. Dragon Converted into Postage Due Stamps graded ASG VF/XF 85 Mint OG(lot 20), with an estimate of $300 to $600
